Cougar baseball falls to Athenians, 11-1

Monday, May 5, 2008

CRAWFORDSVILLE -- The North Putnam baseball team suffered an 1-1 loss at the hands of Crawfordsville Friday night.

A six-run first inning for the Athenians was enough for the win, but another run in the four and four in the sixth ended the game by 10-run rule.

Freshman Tyler Watson was the Cougar starter, picking up the loss in five-and-two-thirds innings. Watson allowed nine runs on four hits and nine walks. He picked up one strikeout.

Coach Norm Fish said he thought Watson had some freshman jitters in the first before settling down and throwing several solid innings for North. The coach thought it was a very good showing against the second-ranked team in 3A.

Kyle Alcorn was 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Jordan Berry was 1-for-3 with a double.

Kyle Rooker was 1-for-2.
