Eagles place second

The South Putnam boys' golf team finished second in their three-way meet with Owen Valley and Monrovia. The Eagles finished nine strokes behind Owen Valley on Monday.

Tyler Newby led the Eagle charge by shooting a 40 with Dylan Gilbert finishing the day with a 48. Damon Robinson shot a 50, Tyler Shoffner shot a 51 and Matt Huck ended his day with a 53. Michael Nichols carded a 47 for the Eagles while Tyler Cox shot a 59.

"This was not a very good night for us," South Putnam head coach Scott Ricke said. "We're still working on some swing changes, but these kids need to learn how to score out there. We are leaving a lot of strokes on the course with silly mistakes."

Ricke commented that he thought the team is better than the numbers they've been putting up lately. The culprit to his team seesaw play he believes is their ability to concentrate.

"Our focus has not been for every shot on every hole," he said. "We seem to only have spurts of focus when we're in trouble out there.

"We can do better," Ricke assured.

South Putnam will compete in the Putnam County tournament at Clover Meadow beginning at 4:30 p.m.
