Weaver appointed genealogist

Tracing a lineage will be easier locally with the appointment of a new genealogist for Putnam County.

Don Weaver, Greencastle, has been appointed as the Indiana County Genealogist (ICG) for Putnam County by the Indiana Genealogical Society (IGS).

ICG's coordinate the genealogical information and activities in their county with IGS.

Weaver's new position will have him working with local genealogical and historical societies as well as individuals in their pursuit of family history.

This is no new field for Weaver.

In 1999, the Putnam County Library appointed him as the Local Historian Librarian, Head of the Department of Local History and Genealogy.

He worked at this job until he retired in January of 2007.

Weaver was born and raised in western Illinois and has lived in Indiana since 1983.

He earned his Bachelor of Science in Math from Western Illinois University and University of Illinois, Urbana, and earned his Master of Arts from Teachers' College, Columbia University, New York.

After working as a teacher for over seven years he moved into the computer field and gained 22 years of data processing experience.

Data processing will help him deal with historic and genealogical data in both traditional as well as electronic format.

The IGS was formed in 1989 by a group of individuals who hope to encourage interest in the history of Indiana, to safeguard historic documentation of early settlers and to publish literature that will be of assistance to Indiana researchers.
