CLOVERDALE -- Despite unfavorable conditions, the Cloverdale golf team defeated Martinsville and Eminence at home Thursday night. The Clovers won with a total of 163. Martinsville followed with 171 and Eminence had a 278.

"We made a good recovery from our train wreck Tuesday at Turkey Run," CHS head coach Doug Wokoun said. "Conditions were not conducive to golf, but we seem to play better when the weather is inclement."

Michael Glassburn, Chris Arnold and Sean Rhine tore up the course, scoring low score to lead Cloverdale. Glassburn and Arnold shot 39 and Rhine had a 40. Mike Wellington shot a 45, while Blake Witt and Jacob Saunders both shot 51.

"Michael, Chris and Sean all played very well in the constant rain and wind," Wokoun commented.

Cloverdale's junior varsity lost to Martinsville 177-203. Ryan Book led the CHS JV with a score of 44.

"We got a excellent effort from Ryan Book, who shot a 44, his low round of the season," Wokoun said.

Wokoun acknowledged that Thursday's match was a step in the right direction for his Clovers. After ups and downs all season, the Clovers are preparing themselves to enter sectional and playing more consistent golf.

"We now need to move forward and build from this victory," Wokoun said.
