FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Greencastle High School graduate and Indiana University runner Andy Weatherford placed 15th in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at Saturday's NCAA Mideast Regional at the University of Arkansas.

Weatherford ran a 9:31.72 on Saturday after coming in with a seed time of 9:04.43.

A mile specialist while at GHS, Weatherford recently told the BannerGraphic of some of the adjustments he has had to make to running the steeplechase. He continues to do his distance work, but has also had to work on learning hurdling technique.

"What is different is the drills that I will often do after my distance workouts," Weatherford said. "We do a few simple hurdle drills over regular hurdles, just working on perfecting my hurdling technique and form. After that we will often practice a few water jumps, which includes practicing stepping on the water barrier and also completely hurdling it."

Weatherford just completed his freshman year at IU.
