The Friends of the Greencastle Fire Department recently received a Duke Energy Foundation Grant of $1,000 to help implement a Children In Need Of Safety Education (C.I.N.O.S.E.) program in the community.

The new program will give children, teachers and parents an in-depth safety education program that will involve participation in school, home and business settings.

The Duke Energy Foundation Grant Award money is also aimed at helping deter the amount of juvenile fire setters, decreasing household accidents and firs and helping to increase property conservation in the community.

The Duke Energy Foundation helps improve the quality of life in communities by sharing their time through volunteer efforts, their expertise through leadership and their financial support through grants to charitable organizations.

The Friends of the Greencastle Fire Department organization was formed in the spring of 2001. It is comprised of people in the community who want to increase awareness of the Fire Department. Members include the Greencastle Mayor, Clerk, treasurer, DePauw University president and many community leaders and business people.

Their mission is fire prevention and education in the community. For information about the program contact Christy Glass at the Greencastle Fire Department.
