Jazz ensemble 'Convergence' to perform tonight at 7 o'clock

Tuesday, June 24, 2008

Robe Ann Park will be filled with jazz tunes today beginning at 7 p.m. by an Indianapolis based ensemble.

Convergence, a jazz ensemble that includes Greencastle native Harry Maginity, will perform at the Robe Ann Park band shell. The band also includes Sue Maginity, Carl Hines and Ray Cumberland.

Convergence plays all over central Indiana. Sue says she vocally is influenced by the likes of Diana Krall and Anita O'Day.

According to their band biography, "Convergence brings it all together -- bop, ballads, blues and bossa.

The group performs as a piano-led trio (plus vocalist), or as a quartet with a tenor saxophone/flute lead player.

A straight-up jazz aggregation popular with festival-goers and wine tasters, Convergence broadens its repertoire for dance dates and non-jazz venues. Based in central Indiana, the group has played Indianapolis' finer hotels, steakhouses and jazz clubs.

Live recordings of the group are currently on the air -- featured on jazz-formatted radio stations."

Parkfest is free to the public. It is an outdoor function so dress accordingly and bring chairs and/or blankets to sit on. This event is family friendly.
