Quincy man drowns in pond
A Quincy man was among several unrelated drownings over the weekend.
Officers say Steve Johnston, 47, of Quincy drowned Sunday night while hunting for frogs in a private pond behind an Owen County home.
Johnston was alone in a boat when it capsized, a friend told officers.
Meanwhile, a 4-year-old boy and a teenager died in separate drownings over the weekend, according to state conservation officers.
The boy -- Mason C. Phifer of Tipton -- drowned while playing in the water with his sisters and a friend Sunday afternoon at the Hidden Lake Campground near the Grant County town of Fairmount, conservation officers said.
Divers found the boy's body in eight feet of water. There was no lifeguard on duty at the small lake.
Officers were also investigating the drowning of Anthony B. Cox, 19, of Avon at Raccoon Lake in Parke County.
His body was found Sunday night in about 15 feet of water about 150 feet from shore. Cox was swimming in an area that was closed because of high water.
