Russellville's water future still in question
RUSSELLVILLE -- Russellville's water future is still in question following Wednesday night's town council meeting.
After an initial meeting with American Water, Council President Don Reddish said the company was talking to their bosses to see if they would be interested in buying out Russellville's water utility.
At this time, no action is being taken until they hear back from the American Water representatives about their intentions. From that point, they will have a discussion with the town members to lay out what it would be like to be under American Water.
Water Superintendent Mike Varvel also had his contract renewed for 10 months. He will be the superintendent until May 31 at which time he may no longer be able to fulfill that duty.
Meanwhile, new stop signs have arrived. At this time the signs have not been put up but they will be soon.
"We really needed these signs," Reddish said. "Some of the ones that are up now aren't even recognizable."
The board will have a meeting next Tuesday, July 22, to lay out the 2009 budget. During this meeting they will discuss the need to repair the water tower. According to Varvel, it needs to be drained and sandblasted to remove the internal rust before October.
Lastly, the Russellville Community Center's Luau raised $893.51 for use on the Community Center.
The Russellville Town Council meets regularly the third Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. in Russellville Town Council.
