Town hires worker for titleless job
Charlie Boller knows what his new job for the town of Bainbridge entails. He just doesn't know what to call it.
On Wednesday, the Bainbridge Town Council approved hiring Boller for the part-time job that includes handling animal control issues, mowing, supervising community service workers, code enforcement, meter reading, snow removal and other duties. All they have to do now is give the job a name.
After a late start, board members Richard Cope and Bonnie Osborn voted in favor of a motion to hire Boller. Naomi Barker abstained, saying she did not wish to participate in the hiring process, as all of the applicants were customers of her business.
The position is 16 hours a week. It requires no new spending on the part of the town as the Deputy Marshal budget was reduced last year to allow for this position.
Town Clerk Jason Hartman advised the council that the Putnam County Humane Society was in the process of working with the Putnam County Commissioners and the municipalities throughout Putnam County to arrange for permanent funding for the operation of the animal shelter in Greencastle.
Hartman told the council that Greencastle Mayor Sue Murray and Humane Shelter board members planned on attending the Commissioners meeting on Aug. 4 to discuss the issue.
The Humane Society is also working with the Putnam County Prosecutor to secure funding for a spay/neuter program.
Local resident Leon Tippin appeared at the meeting to request approval from the Council to develop a temporary Recreational Vehicle (RV) Park on his property east of the Family Dollar store in Bainbridge.
Tippin hopes to use his property to house RV's for workers for the Rockies Express Pipeline who will be moving to the area temporarily. Tippin's lot is currently zoned as Residential One. He wants to place four RV's on the lot.
Council members recommended Tippin request a variance through the Bainbridge Zoning Administrator Kim Hyten.
The Bainbridge Town Council meets at 7 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month at the Community Building.
