Local children all smiles in pedal tractor pull

Saturday, July 26, 2008

Some of the strongest pedalers in the county gathered in the goat barn at the Putnam County Fairgrounds Friday for the Pedal Tractor Pull.

Cameron Hankins won the 0 to 40 pound division at the pedal pull.

The children competed in four weight divisions, with the top three in each class winning their choice of farm toys.

In the 0 to 40 pound class, Cameron Hankins took first prize, followed by Douglas O'Hair. Colton Clifford placed third in the class.

In the 41 to 54 pound division, Brodie Parent finally took the top prize, after the first pull plus three pull-offs. Jonathon Poynter placed second, while Cailin Shilling came in third.

In the 55 to 65 pound class, it was Ryan Sutherlin who came out on top. Trace Thomas was second, followed by Colton Shilling.

The 66 pound and above class was another exciting contest, with three rounds of pull-offs needed again. When the dust settled, Jesse Robinson was the champion, edging out Nikki Farrow. Taylor Goss came in third.

But to see the smiles on all the kids faces, there were no winners or losers. Each child received a coupon for a free glass of milk from the Farm Bureau milk stand. All went away having had a good time and an ice cold drink.
