Bertram seeking seat on County Council

Bette Bertram served the Putnam County community as a teacher and guidance counselor for Greencastle Community Schools for 33 years.

In announcing her candidacy for Putnam County Council, she pledges to work to bring taxation and spending under control.

Bertram said, "I have great concern for middle class America. Taxes have become overwhelming for many families in recent years. This is due largely to existing expenditures. I want to fully evaluate county spending priorities and closely investigate spending requests. I want to ensure we benefit our community and eliminate wasteful spending."

Bertram wants to serve as a voice for constituents in the county.

"If elected, my voice will be your voice," she said. "I will be available to you. I will listen to your concerns and consider all opinions before making decisions. I will take a common sense approach to matters that come before the council."

Additionally, Bertram will use her seat on the Council as an opportunity to help two charities that are close to her heart. She is not seeking the election for the salary or insurance; instead she will divide whatever monies received for her services between the Putnam County Humane Society and the Away-Home Shelter.

The Humane Society exists primarily on donations and the Away Home with the present economic crisis, could likely see greater demand for their services.

Bertram is a mother, grandmother, animal lover, concerned citizen, veteran and retired teacher. She was born in Clinton Township, graduated from Bainbridge igh School, and received a bachelor of science and graduate degree in guidance and counseling from Indiana State University.
