Old-fashioned movie night coming to Bainbridge
Bainbridge residents will be treated to a night at the movies, Saturday, Aug. 9 in the parking lot of the Bainbridge Community Center.
The movie "Nim's Island" will begin at dusk (around 9:30 p.m.) and is sponsored by Context, Landscape Architecture, the Bainbridge Improvement Society, Hannum, Wagle & Cline and the Bainbridge Parks Department.
Anything can happen on Nim's Island, a magical place ruled by a young girl's imagination. It is a 2008 American film directed by Jennifer Flackett and Mark Levin. It stars Abigail Breslin, Jodie Foster and Gerard Butler.
The story is an adventure-fantasy film based on the book "Nim's Island" by Wendy Orr, a Canadian-born Australian writer.
The premise of the movie is that a young girl, Nim, seeks help from the author of her favorite adventure series when her scientist father goes missing.
Nim lives on an island in the South Pacific. The author, Alexandra Rover, is an agoraphobic living in San Francisco who overcomes her fears and sets out in search of Nim. Meanwhile, a cruise ship company is threatening to invade Nim's island with uncouth tourists.
There are plenty of animals including a sea lion, bearded dragon, turtle and pelican as well as adventure in the film. So, bring your lawn chairs and blankets. Popcorn and drinks will be available for purchase at the Community Center. The event is free to the public.
