Author on Vietnam War coming to PCL

Monday, August 11, 2008

The Vietnam War era was a time of great political tension both domestically and abroad.

The outcome of one soldier's experiences are eloquently described in a book published by the Indiana Historical Society, "To Bear any Burden: A Hoosier Green Beret's Letters from Vietnam", written by Daniel FitzGibbon.

On Saturday, Aug.16 at 1 p.m., FitzGibbon will be at the Putnam County Public Library to read from his book and discuss his experiences.

Fitzgibbon is a native of Indiana and a West Point Graduate. After serving in Germany for several years, he volunteered for Vietnam, serving for 19 months as an Army Special Forces Captain during 1968 and 1969.

All of the royalties from "To Bear any Burden: A Hoosier Green Beret's Letters from Vietnam" go to the Special Forces Tribute Fund, which benefits the families of Army Special Forces soldiers killed in Afghanistan or Iraq.

Copies of his book will be available for purchase. This event is free and open to the public.
