Cloverdale marshal works north

Fillmore Town Council members approved hiring Cloverdale Town Marshal Don Pearson to take the place of Fillmore Deputy Marshal Tim Walker who resigned. Pearson has been serving as Cloverdale Town Marshal and owns Pearson's Funeral Home in Cloverdale.

Board member Alan Jones asked Town Marshal Tom Helmer if he was recommending Pearson for the position. He replied he was. The town currently has two paid positions for deputies and one reserve position. They are working on creating another position.

Helmer emphasized that Pearson was replacing Walker and this was not a new position.

One member of the audience voiced concern that Pearson did not live in Fillmore and the position needed to be filled by someone who was easily accessible to the town.

"Tom's job is to secure the safety of the town. It's really up to him," said Board President Jeff Osborn.

Helmer added that it would be difficult to find someone qualified for the position that lived in town.
