Cloverdale Council to pay back funds

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

Following last week's announcement regarding the utility department overspending, the Cloverdale Town Council decided this week to pay the back funds.

On the advice of town attorney Alan Yackey, the board decided to pay Spiker's $3,786.77 for work they subcontracted. The board will also attach a note to that payment to Joe Spiker telling him that anything over $500 can't be subcontracted without council approval.

"We also need to make clear that we don't have a problem with Spiker or their work," said council member Terry Puffer.

Puffer went on to say that this was a problem that was within their own house that now needed to be eradicated before further funds are spent, "in emergency situations."

The Council also accepted to use Terry Jones from West Central to write a grant for them. This grant will be used for remediation of the inflow and infiltration system.

Lastly, the board talked at length about the 2009 budget.

At this time, nothing has been set in stone.

A special meeting is being set up for further discussion of the budget to be held sometime around the first of Sept.

This meeting will discuss nothing else but the budget since it will take a couple of hours by itself.

The Cloverdale Town Council meets regularly the second Tuesday of every month in Town Hall at 7 p.m. Their next scheduled meeting is set for Sept. 9, though the special meeting may take place Sept. 8.
