CLAYTON -- On Tuesday, the Cloverdale girls' golf team place third in a three-way match with Plainfield and Monrovia. Plainfield won the event with a 179 total, while Monrovia was second with 209 and Cloverdale third with 235.

'We played better today, but continued to have direction problems as many shots found trees," CHS head coach Ken Williams said.

Junior Kayla Langdon led the way for the Clovers with a 49, while Elizabeth Wiley was second with a 57.

The struggles from Monday seemed to follow the Clovers into their round Tuesday. Cloverdale had a tough time off the tee and in the fairway, but made up some ground on and around the greens.

"As usual, Kayla made up for fairway problems by chipping and putting well," Williams said. "Elizabeth had some tee problems, but chipping in on No. 8 to par both par threes."

Williams noted that Victoria Boyette and Erica Looper both had rounds under their season average. For the first year golfers, Boyette fired a 61 and Looper finished the day with a 68. Williams also acknowledged Boyette's par on the par 4 No. 2

Monrovia provided the medalist winner, Julia Porter with a 39, but it was Plainfield who dominated the day. Plainfield had all five golfers finish with rounds in the 40s.

Cloverdale will travel to West Vigo at 4:30 p.m. today.
