CRAWFORDSVILLE -- The Greencastle girls' golf team placed third to Southmont and Cascade in a three-way match at Crawfordsville Country Club Thursday.

Chelsea Samuels was the bright spot for GHS, turning in her second consecutive medalist performance by shooting a 43.

"This was the second match in a row that Chelsea was medalist in," GHS coach Brad Kingma said. "She got off to a great start with a birdie on her first hole and was only one over after four. She struggled on the par threes, though, with two double bogeys. Her short game has improved quite a bit, but she is still having some problems with being precise in the direction of her shots."

Diane Wokoun was next for GHS with a 55. Katie Hedge added a 60, while Kay Wood fired a 63.

"The rest of the team struggled making good contact on their shots tonight and will need to get some range time to work that out," Kingma commented.

Greencastle travels to Hulman Links to take on Terre Haute North at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

GHS FINISHES SECOND

WEST TERRE HAUTE -- The Greencastle girls' golf team placed second in a three-way match with West Vigo and Rockville at The Landing Wednesday. The Vikings won with a 208, followed by Greencastle's 213, while the Rox were third with a 258.

Chelsea Samuels led the Tiger Cubs with a medalist score of 46. Katie Hedge was next with a 49. Diane Wokoun fired a 55, while Kay Wood closed out the scoring with a 63.

"Our ball striking was as good as we've been all year tonight, and we really though we could get the win," said GHS coach Brad Kingma. But we still lost too many shots on or near the green, including multiple chips to get on a green and three- and four-putts.

"We were up until West Vigo's No. 5 came in with a low score," he continued. "We didn't have a No. 5 tonight as Kristen Hutcheson was out with a back injury. We hope to get her back soon."

The match was the first in the history of Rockville's program.
