WEST TERRE HAUTE -- Although the Cloverdale Clovers fell behind 16-0 to the home-standing West Vigo Vikings they proved that they were not going to lay down without a real fight. Ultimately the Clovers would fall to the Vikings 22-8

With a break or two the Clovers could have found their first win of the season on the road. That was not to be on this night as the Vikings struck for two touchdowns on their first two possessions. And in both scores they were successful on 2-point extra-point tries for a 16-0 lead with eight minutes left in the first half.

Very late in the second quarter the hosts added their last touchdown but missed the kick making the score 22-0, which would prove to be their final scoring for the evening.

As the second half opened with the kick going to the Clovers that was run back to the Clovers 32-yard line. A very strong ground attack started rolling and in 11 plays they moved the ball to the 11-yard line but they were unable to get first down and turned the ball over to the hosts.

The hosts then were able to hold on until late in the game when the Clovers were able to move the ball after forcing the Vikings to punt the ball. The Clovers were able to put together six-play drive highlighted by good running by Dillin Gray and Rory Weather, leading to Gray's four yard scamper into the end-zone and the following extra-point run was good to bring the game to its final outcome.

Following the game Clovers coach Kyle Winkler felt that his team had a good ball game and if they had a break or two things could have been different. After they fell behind 16-0 and further 22-0 they did not show signs of folding up.

The Clovers will travel to Monrovia at 7 p.m. Friday.
