Tiger Cubs' tennis match suspended
MARSHALL -- The Greencastle boys' tennis team traveled to Turkey Run Wednesday night, but was unable to complete the match with the Warriors due to lightning.
The Tiger Cubs trailed the Warriors 2-1 at the time the match was suspended.
No 1 singles players David Cath easily handled the Warriors' Bret Tappan 6-2, 6-1. The win moves the junior's season record to 6-1.
Greencastle's doubles team struggled against the Warriors. At No. 1, Victor Ness and Dustin York fell to Turkey Run's Austin Cook and Nathan Smith 6-0, 6-0. Likewise, the No. 2 doubles team of Cy Spencer and Xander Hazel fell to John Sauer and Clayton Nevins 6-0, 6-0.
Two singles matches were nott competed due to the weather. Ty Fauvergue was winning handily at No. 2 singles 6-3, 4-1 against the Warriors' Colin Brown. At No. 3, Joey Kass was leading Turkey Runs' Brandon Walker, having taken the first set 6-2. He was trailing 3-2 in the second set.
Greencastle JV players Jared Bruner and Tyler Shoemaker had just taken the court when play was suspended.
The match is to be completed at a later date.
Greencastle plays next in Crawfordsville at the Macy Invitational on Saturday at 9 a.m.
