Friday, September 5, 2008
The opening of Democratic Party Headquarters in Greencastle brought out the local candidates, organizer for Barack Obama campaign from Indianapolis, Party Chair People, as well as supporters from both the county and DePauw University.

Coinciding with the election year, the Democrats in Putnam County finally have Party Headquarters in Greencastle.

On Wednesday the building on the south side of the square located at 10 W. Washington St. was officially opened by the Putnam County Democratic Party with special visits from all Democratic candidates from the county. Kip Tew, the state organizer for the Barack Obama campaign from Indianapolis, was also present to help open the building.

"For the first time since probably the 1964 election, we feel confident Indiana could go blue," said Putnam County Democratic Party Chairman Dave Bohmer. "We also have a great chance of making a difference on the state and local levels as well."

There are seven democratic candidates running on the ticket this November from Putnam County. Included are: Nancy Michael running for State Representative District 44, Terry Clifford running for County Commissioner District 3, Gene Clodfelter running for County Commissioner District 1, Bette Bertram and L. Dale Pierce running for County Council at-large, Amanda Mullenix running for Putnam County Treasurer and Kraig Kinney running for Putnam County Superior Court Judge.

The candidates gave short speeches introducing themselves to democratic supporters from both DePauw University and the Putnam County area. All candidates are optimistic about the Democrats opportunity this election from the local levels all the way up to the national level.

Bette Bertram even talked about how she is not a politician by trade but is "just tired of how things in the county operate." She teared up when she stated she would donate her salary to both the Humane Shelter of Putnam County and the A-Way Home Shelter.

Nancy Michael had the exact countdown (61 days as of Wednesday) until the election in November. She was introduced by Tew as, "the next State Representative from Putnam County."

Party Headquarters is open to the public. Anyone wishing to help with the grassroots campaign is encouraged to go sign-up. The phone lines will be up next week sometime making the headquarters officially open.

better off today than you were four years ago."

I Know i have never voted using only one button, but i have never been so sorry for voting for Bush two times and My Man Mitch once.

  • OBAMA WILL LOWER TAXES MORE on the middle class then McCain. I hope that all of our fellow Indiana Residents understand this and make an informed decision come election day. Here are the FACTS:

The Tax Policy Center has done intensive analysis of the two candidates' tax proposals and the found Obama's plan gives tax cuts to 95 percent of working families. The Washington Post has created a chart that explains it by income level:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2008/06/09/ST2008060900950.ht...

    Also see:

www.ObamaTaxCut.com - Calculate your estimated tax cut under Obama's plan.

The overwhelming majority of taxpayers would see a bigger tax cut under Obama's plan than McCain's. As The Washington Post chart shows, 60 percent of taxpayers would get a tax cut three times as big from Obama as from McCain.

Obama's plan gives the biggest cuts to those who make the least, while McCain would give the largest cuts to the very wealthy.
