Attorney General to go after former Roachdale town clerk
Roachdale Town Council members Jack Jones, Bill Long and Barbara Scott heard from Roachdale Town Attorney Tom Casey that the Attorney General will pursue former Town Clerk Jennifer Crum for monies not collected following the theft of town funds.
Casey explained this means the town will not be responsible for the cost of pursing Crum for the money.
Last month the Town Council authorized Casey to go after Crum in a civil action to collect the funds the town had to pay due to late tax filings and mismanagement of monies by Crum during her term as town clerk. Now the Attorney General will pursue her.
Crum recently pled guilty to once charge of theft and was sentenced by Judge Robert Lowe in Superior Court.
In 2006, Crum paid herself two paychecks in a week. She was alleged to have done this on six different occasions for the amount of $3,720.
Crum was sentenced to two 48-hour sessions of weekend jail at the Putnam County Jail for the class-D felony charge. She was also given probation for one and a half years and 40 hours of community service.
In other business the board reminded residents that open burning in the town is only allowed between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Jones told those attending the meeting to call 911 and report any open burning outside these hours. Emergency Dispatch will notify the fire department that will put out the fire.
Jones clarified that this does not include wood fires for events like wiener roasts or bonfires.
The board also decided to make parking on Walnut Street one-way on the eastside of the street.
They also agreed to post two 20 mph signs in the new housing addition on Oak Street. A stop sign will also be posted at the end of Maple and Oak in that same housing addition.
The council also agreed to allow Town Marshall Mike Mahoy to purchase a new Dodge Charger police car for approximately $26,000.
The Roachdale Town Council meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. at Town Hall.
