South Putnam connects parents with Web site

Tuesday, September 16, 2008

South Putnam School Corporation now has a working Web page that is updated daily.

The Web page includes a daily bulletin, calendars for athletic events school and menus, college visits and college checklists. Soon, parents will also be able to pay for their student's lunch online as well.

At their Monday night meeting, the school board was pleased with the advancements that the page has taken. Most of it is done by students in class using design software Frontpage. The Web page will continue to progress as the year goes on and the students become more web-savvy.

In other business, Transportation Director Chuck Shaffer gave a report to the school board as well.

He began by stating that the 2007-08 school year was successful. Only one accident was reported and the only damage was some paint scraping. They also have only had one mechanical violation in the past two years on their entire fleet.

"This is very exceptional," said Shaffer.

He went on to tell the difference between the 2006-07 and 2007-08 school years in fuel costs was $61,000.

"That's really something I didn't want to have to include here tonight," Shaffer said. "The cost of fuel will remain an expensive issue."

In other business, the school board approved the adoption of the 2009 budget at Monday's meeting. It will now be sent to the state to hopefully be approved.

The personnel report includes: resignations from Sheree Blanton, Chasitity Hazelgrove Jill McCammack; termination of Steffanie Hornback; and the hiring of Carol Jervis, Ollie Osterhoudt, Krystal Teague and Evonne Canary.

The South Putnam School Board meets regularly the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Music Room of Central Elementary.
