Lady Tiger Cubs dominate Northview

Tuesday, September 16, 2008

The Greencastle girls' soccer team outscored the Northview Knights 5-0 in the first half Saturday, on its way to a 7-1 victory.

"We thought the weather was going to be a factor, but it turned out to be a great day for soccer," Tiger Cub coach Maurice McKee said.

Katherine Farris opened the scoring for GHS, putting them up 1-0 with 37:39 to go in the half. Whitney Brotherton added a goal at 19:01.

The last ten minutes were especially eventful, as Melissa Ball scored with 9:09 remaining, and Hannah Spencer scored at the 7:30 mark. Freshman Mackenzie Meyer closed out the first-half scoring with 18 seconds remaining.

"We talked at halftime about some things would could work on such as passing accuracy and stepping to the ball," McKee said. "The Lady Tiger cubs went back on the field and played even better."

Northview got its only goal of the game at 29:47 remaining in the game.

However, GHS was not done, as Ball scored her second goal with 24:15 left and Laura English scored the game's final goal with 3:04 to go.

"The girls played well and we did not have too many injuries," McKee said.

Greencastle visits West Vigo at 5:30 p.m. today.
