GHS soccer gets win

Wednesday, October 1, 2008

The Tiger Cubs battled with the Terre Haute Patriot Tuesday at Dee Monnett Field and won a couple of close matches. The varsity won 2-1, while the junior varsity won 3-2.

In varsity action, the two teams fought back and forth the entire first half, with neither side gaining much of an advantage.

After the Braves took a 1-0 lead, freshman Mitchell Ball fired a shot that was deflected by one of the Patriots defenders. Fortunately for the Tiger Cubs, Greg Lilly was there to take the deflection and put a shot past the Patriots keeper Adam Shamsaie to tie the score 1-1, where it remained at the break.

"The goal to tie the game just before halftime was a huge lift for us, GHS head coach Dave Lilly said.

The Tiger Cubs went up 2-1 in the second half when junior David Cath beat Shamsaie with 14:47 to secure the win.

In the JV match the Tiger Cubs were victorious 3-2. Scoring for GHS was Jon Good, Cody Watson and Ball.
