Several arrested on drug charges

Tuesday, October 7, 2008

Several people were arrested in Greencastle over the weekend after police discovered what was identified as a mobile meth lab.

Police Chief Tom Sutherlin told the Banner Graphic that Officer Chris Helmer was conducting a routine traffic stop early Friday morning on a vehicle occupied by 28-year-old Chad Buttery of Russellville and 37-year-old Timothy French.

According to the police chief, the suspects ran from the officer and a foot pursuit ensued. The men were tracked to the home of Buttery's brother, 34-year-old Fred Buttery, located on Avenue E in Greencastle.

Chad Buttery along with French were arrested on charges of resisting law enforcement and manufacturing or financing the manufacture of a controlled substance.

The police chief said the state police drug unit inspected the car and determined methamphetamines were being manufactured out of the vehicle.

Also arrested were Fred Buttery and Christina Golden. Both were charged with neglect of a dependent (because there were children present in the home) and maintaining a common nuisance, in addition to possessing and dealing in marijuana.

The police chief said he did not think drugs were being manufactured in the home.

  • Some commenters have bad things to say about the police pulling them over for bad signaling or rolling stops, etc., etc. This is solid proof that traffic patrolling is important. Most drug offenders are caught by the simplest of infractions while driving. Almost all big bust stories start with routine traffic stops. Good job Helmer.

  • There is one little brother who will be getting a butt kickin when big brother gets a chance. Putnam County seems to be full of stupid criminals. Thank you Helmer for doing your job and getting these punks off the street.

  • I pray that there will be good people come forth to take these children!I know them personally and they are good kids that need a chance in life.I also pray that the parent's learn a lesson and understand that our children are our lives.

  • Weren't the Buttery brothers in prison lately for meth production? Apparently they never learn. If I'm not mistaken, the children of the Buttery/Golden union have been removed from the home before. Maybe it should be a permanent placement for the children so they can be raised properly away from the drug culture.

  • Satan appears to have a good hold on the Buttery Boy's souls. Perhaps they will find Jesus through some prison ministry.

  • Ya all gotta realize its not just the "buttery's" its all over this county. Yes i feel for those children, but the parents also need prayer and with divine intervention they may get the help they need. as a former addict i know its hard to get away from alchol/drugs. we just need to keep praying for this family!! Jail is no rehab. its not a "lesson to be learned" its an addiction and with God and rehab it can be won! God bless!

  • Ya all need to realize these boy have been in and out of jail several times, the only way they'll change is rehab and Gods divine intervention. I pray for these children and for the parents and so should ya all instead of saying kickin butts and all that is the only solution. and to gpd good for you, but there are much bigger fish to fry here in putnam county, keep up the good work and get the meth outta here! God bless!

  • This is not the first time these individuals have been arrested for the same issues. Please put them away, for the better of the public and safety of the children that are placed near them.

  • before everyone starts judging anyone maybe they should have all the facts first. maybe even the police should look at their evidence a little better. 3 adult lives and 8 childrens lives have been torn apart by the ignorant and selfish acts of two people that have no respect for anyone or anything

  • CONGRATULATIONS MS. GOLDEN !!!!! on your return to your home and the return of your children and proving your innocence, soon Fred and Tim will follow. I believe in love and rehabilitation. God bless your family

  • this is so weak. if the buttery's had any money to fight this they would have a chance (especially the older one). now this poor guys going to lose his family over some weed. now for the younger one, he messed up. punish him.

  • good people who hit hard times. you guys are pathetic, supporting people who break the law. These are the same drugs that get to young children nice to see some of the drugs taken off of the streets, every little bit helps.

  • Making Greencastle safer, one bust at a time. Thank You GPD!

-- Posted by ThinkPeopleThink on Thu, Oct 9, 2008, at 6:15 AM
  • making greencastle safer only works when the right people are busted. look how many of GPDs and the pcs dept have been let go recently for their wrong doings .... are they behind bars? whats the difference ..breaking the law is breaking the law!!! Are all you bible thumpers and so called perfect citizens praying they find jesus in some prison ministry

-- Posted by secretweapon on Thu, Oct 9, 2008, at 8:53 AM
  • Well, it looks to me like they busted the right people in this case!

  • People need to get all the facts before judging the father of the children was trying to do right in this matter and for the mother her children are her world and dont do no drugs what so ever....

    -- Posted by momma8 on Fri, Oct 10, 2008, at 7:28 AM
  • ThinkPeopleThink, evidently you are one of the misinformed, rumor fed, close-minded individuals that wants to judge before all the facts are presented. As the bible says judge not lest ye be judged....or let ye without sin cast the first stone. our society is so ignorant and unforgiving and judgmental just over someones last name or their monetary stature in the community. the poor get persecuted the rich get glorified. things are not always the way it seems or looks

  • Requardless of whether the father and mother had drugs on them, they let known drug makers in their house. I would of had a few questions had my sibling come running and pounding on my door in the middle of the night. Indirectly they endangered their childrens lives by allowing these guys into their house, what if there had been a standoff or a child got in the middle of the arrest? I guess only sane caring parents think of all sides (good and bad) before they let people around their children.

  • secretweapon, I'm sorry, we must of not read the same story.

"Chad Buttery along with French were arrested on charges of resisting law enforcement and manufacturing or financing the manufacture of a controlled substance.

The police chief said the state police drug unit inspected the car and determined methamphetamines were being manufactured out of the vehicle.

Also arrested were Fred Buttery and Christina Golden. Both were charged with neglect of a dependent (because there were children present in the home) and maintaining a common nuisance, in addition to possessing and dealing in marijuana."

I didn't judge anyone, that will happen as the courts see fit. I was simply saying that the police seemed to have done a good job on this one.

I'm not sure how that makes me " one of the misinformed, rumor fed, close-minded individuals" that you accuse me of being. My information came from this story.

    Once again, good job GPD.

-- Posted by ironmaiden on Mon, Oct 13, 2008, at 8:13 PM
  • granny... you must be referring to

fred and tim being in the wrong place at the wrong time, oh wait fred and tim were in freds' house. how can being in your own home be the wrong place. maybe if the other two hadn't put them in jeopardy buy running to freds house the innocent wouldn't be in jail now

-- Posted by secretweapon on Tue, Oct 14, 2008, at 10:52 AM
  • THE WRITER FORGOT TO MENTION THAT THE GUY WHO TRIED TO RUN GOT AWAY WITH A "BUCKET" OF METH.. WHAT? WAS HE RUNNING TO FAST FOR THE COPS TO CATCH UP TO HIM?.. NO I DON'T THINK SO.. SHOWS HOW REDICULOUS OUR COPS ARE AROUND HERE...

  • Hey, I used to live in this town. I am not afraid to use my name either Tim Mazur, for those that remember , great!, for those that don't or never di- I can care less. Sick and tired of reading about this mess. I know Tom Sutherlin and he is a good man. Suggest you get your education, learn about more than "grendingle" and quit feeling sorry for yourself!. Greencastle is a great town, I miss it but tired of seeing this shi* for the past 20 yrs. Grow up and make a use of yourself!!!
