John D. Allee Jr. graduated to glory on Oct. 12, 2008. John was born on Aug. 4, 1928 in Lafayette, Ind. and was raised on the family homestead south of Greencastle.

He served in the Army from 1951-52 as a heavy equipment operator and was instrumental in the building of several Army bases. He was baptized into Christ on Oct. 18, 1952 and married Judith Suzan Ray on June 12, 1955.

John served in the church from the time of his baptism forward. A faithful follower, he served as a Deacon at Greencastle Christian Church. Utilizing his heavy equipment operating skills for God's service, he cleared the ground and drive for the current location of Greencastle Christian Church. In 1981, John and Judy returned to Arizona where he served again at Yuma First Christian Church as a faithful believer.

John and Judy spent many years enjoying retirement and traveling between Indiana and Arizona. Although his for commitment was to the church, John also enjoyed many hobbies, including gardening, helping neighbors, showing family and visiting friends the beauty of the Arizona desert, and providing countless hours of tractor rides to his grandchildren.

John is survived by his wife, Judy, and their children: John Allee III (wife Konnie), of Florence, Ariz., Bonnie Allee, of Yuma, Ariz. Robert Allee (wife Karen), of Phoenix, Ariz., and Jay Allee (wife Elizabeth), of Greencastle. Also surviving are his sister, Helen Gardner, of Greencastle; brothers Walter Allee, of Spencer, Jack Allee, of Greencastle, Frank Allee, of Cloverdale; step-brothers, Donald Grimes, of Hollandsburg, and Alvie Grimes, of Advance; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John D. Allee Sr. and Sarah L. Allee, sister Betty Pearl, brothers Joe and Robert Allee and step-brothers James and Clarence Grimes.

A memorial service is planned for Friday, Oct. 17, 2008 at Greencastle Christian Church.

Visitation with the family will begin at 5:30 p.m. and a celebration of life service will begin at 6 p.m.

At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Greencastle Christian Church's Mission Fund for the work in Nigeria.
