Public invited to help troops this holiday season

Friday, October 24, 2008

From yellow ribbons to letter writing, there are numerous ways to support soldiers who are deployed overseas.

For five years, Danville Christian Church's military support group has sent care packages, letters and cards to the heroic men and women serving our country.

The group shipped 66 boxes in June and is looking at sending more for Christmas. There are 207 local soldiers currently on the list to receive Christmas care packages, including those from Putnam County. The support group is still accepting names to be given a package. If anyone would like to have a soldiers name added to the list, call Mary Haas at 765-522-3571.

To make a donation, visit any of these Putnam County locations: Bainbridge BP gas station, Treasures on the Square in Greencastle, Midtown Florist in Cloverdale and Allen's TV Sales and Service in Roachdale. Lists of donation items are also available at these locations.

For more locations in Morgan and Hendricks counties, contact Haas.

Monetary donations to help with the cost of postage will also be accepted. Checks may be made payable to Danville Christian Church and mailed to the church at: 180 W. Main St., Danville, IN 46122.

The group is also in need of people to donate their time. The Christmas care packages will be put together at 7 p.m. Nov. 18 at Danville Christian Church. Anyone wishing to give their time and help with the packages is welcome to attend.
