Wade to be sentenced on Dec. 11
A Greencastle woman accused of stealing funds from the accountant she worked for will be sentenced Dec. 11 in Putnam County Circuit Court.
Tamera S. Wade, 45, was charged with Class D felony theft and surrendered herself to the court on Sept. 16. She entered a guilty plea to the charge the next day, and was released on her own recognizance. At that time, her sentencing was set for Oct. 16.
Wade's guilty plea means no plea agreement will be filed. The maximum prison sentence for a Class D felony is three years.
On Sept. 30, Judge Matthew Headley recused himself from the case and requested that Judge Thomas Milligan of Montgomery County Circuit Court assume jurisdiction. At that time, the sentencing was taken off the court calendar, court documents said.
Several days later, Milligan accepted the case, which will still be heard in Putnam County Circuit Court.
Wade admitted taking the funds during an interview with Indiana State Police Detective Scott Stockton in early August, court records said.
The exact amount of money Wade is accused of stealing from her employer, Edward Wood & Co. Inc. of Greencastle, has not been revealed, although Stockton said it was "significant."
Putnam County Prosecutor Tim Bookwalter said it was safe to say Wade was accused of stealing several thousand dollars.
"Some sort of internal audit is being done," Bookwalter said. "They're supposed to be getting the numbers to the judge. I think the total is going to be approaching six figures."
Wade had been employed by Wood & Co. since 1988. She was terminated on July 28.
Wade has no prior criminal record.
