GHS freshman hoopsters earn split

CRAWFORDSVILLE-- The Greencastle boys' freshman team split a pair of games this week.

The Tiger Cubs defeated Crawfordsville at home Tuesday night 33-27 in a hard fought game.

Greencastle went into halftime with a nine-point lead and hung on to a pretty good lead throughout the third quarter. But Crawfordsville made a furious fourth quarter rally, eventually cutting the lead to five. But the Tiger Cubs put the game away by going 3-5 from the free-throw line to seal the win. Hunter Mitchell led all scorers with 14 points. And eight of the 12 Tiger Cub players that saw action scored in the contest.

On Monday night, the Tiger Cubs traveled to South Vermillion to take on the Wildcats.

Greencastle lost to the C team 35-27.

The Tiger Cubs overcame a five-point halftime deficit with a huge 16-point third quarter to lead by one going into the final quarter. However, the Tiger Cubs missed several shots in the quarter, and their only points came from the free-throw line before eventually falling to the Wildcats. Trevor Huber led the Tiger Cubs with eight points and Jesse Tesmer added six.

Greencastle (1-1) is off until Wednesday when they travel to South Putnam to take on the Eagles starting at 6 p.m.
