Greencastle had a very successful night against Tri-West. They were victorious in eight events and posted personal bests in events in which they didn't win.

Melissa Ball and Erika Collins had big nights for Greencastle, capturing two event wins. Ball won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:11.70 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:51.64. Collins got her wins in the 200-yard IM (2:32.64) and in the 100-yard backstroke (1:10.27).

Also delivering wins for GHS on the night were Danielle Tesmer in the 100-yard butterfly (1:25.47) and Natasha Aring in the 100-yard freestyle (1:03.30).

The Tiger Sharks also captured two relay wins on the night.

The team of Aring, Tesmer, Sara Culler and Kelsey Murtagh won the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:18.01. Aring, Culler, Morgan Terry and Melanie Bittles won the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 4:22.79.

After the meet, head coach Luke Beasley had quite a lot to say about the meet and his team.

"Tonight we had the opportunity to swim girls in a lot of different spots which enabled us to create competition in several events that lead to us really swimming well. Since I've been coaching here, Erika Collins never swam the 200 IM, but tonight she put up the second fastest time of the year. Morgan Terry and Melissa Ball both put forth an awesome effort in the 500 freestyle which really brought out the best in them.

"Even though our divers didn't win, they both put up season high scores. Overall, the girls swam with a lot of passion considering the tough morning practice we had this morning," Beasley commented.

Greencastle will travel to Bloomington North at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

  • Thanks very much for the coverage of the girls.

They did a great job last night and it is good to see them recognized in the BG.
