Angel Tree

Friday, December 5, 2008
Residents and staff from Hickory Creek at Sunset decorated the "Angel" tree at Putnam County Hospital Thursday afternoon. Evelyn Brown, marketing director hung handmade angel ornaments with residents Hameta Crooks and Doris Hicks.

For nearly 10 years, the residents at Hickory Creek at Sunset have been making angel ornaments out of lace handkerchiefs. The angels are then placed on the tree that stands in the lobby of the professional building at Putnam County Hospital.

Residents and staff from the nursing facility have been dedicated in creating the angels every year.

"We work on them once a month all year long," said Lisa Dodson, Activity Director. "This year we made them with beads and put some on our tree at Sunset, too."

On Thursday afternoon, residents and roommates Hameta Crooks and Doris Hicks were hanging the ornaments with Evelyn Brown, marketing director, and Dodson.

Hicks is 98 years young and loves Christmas. Her roommate Crooks looks forward to this activity every year.

Crooks and Hicks, who took a short break, offered helpful suggestions to Brown and Dodson on where to place lights and ornaments.

"You left a bare spot right there," she laughingly pointed out.

The tree will remain up until just after the New Year.
