Harlan D. Rissler

Harlan Dale Rissler, 82, of Charleston, Ill. passed away Friday, Dec. 5, 2008 at his home.

He was born July 16, 1926 in Clay County, son of Harlan M. and Cleo F. Hepler Rissler. He married Florence Irene Diel, at the first Baptist Church, Reelsville, July 6, 1947 and she survives.

Mr. Rissler was a member of First Baptist Church of Charleston, as well as being a life member of Paul McVey V.F.W. Post #1592. He also held memberships in the Masonic Lodge and the Elks. He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the Asian Pacific Theater of operations aboard the U.S.S. Guilford as an amphibious driver landing troops.

He was a Purdue University graduate and retired from Sun Oil Company as an engineer. He was very family-oriented, never met a stranger and was always joking.

Also surviving are children Cheri Cooper and husband Larry of Charleston, Brad Rissler and wife Debbie of Argenta, Ill. and Debbie Smith of Charleston, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.'

He was preceded in death by one brother.

A graveside funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8 at Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery, with Pastor Pat Murphy officiating. His memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church, 2800 University Drive, Charleston. There will be no calling.

Arrangements are being handled by Caudill-King Funeral Home of Charleston. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lincolnland Hospice.
