Sheriff's Dept. offers 'Help for the Holidays'

Monday, December 8, 2008

The Putnam County Sheriff's Department is offering "Help for the Holidays" to needy area families.

Sheriff Steve Fenwick hopes to help 10 families by providing food baskets that include a turkey or ham and canned goods.

"In these tough economic times, there are families and single-parent households that could use some extra assistance during the holiday season," Sheriff Fenwick stated. "Our department wants to share its holiday spirit with folks who otherwise would not have a holiday meal for their family."

Donations for Help for the Holidays can be dropped off at the Putnam

County Jail's administration office, 13 Keightly Rd., Greencastle, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays.

Monetary donations are also welcome and can be sent to the sheriff's department in care of Help for the Holidays. All donations should be received by Saturday, Dec. 20.

Names and addresses of needy families are also being accepted, Fenwick said, and will be kept confidential.

For more information, call the sheriff's department at 653-3211.

  • Will they really be needy or are they just to lazy to work?

  • Well that's nice, considering the Sheriff's office had the gull to ask local business's for donations this year so that all of their staff could have a gift! WAWA Do you live in this county and know that the economy is bad for everyone here. Maybe all the local businesses need to send out letters to boost their employees moral....I know ours sure could use some.
