Sheriff's Department

Several accidents have been reported by the Putnam County Sheriff's Office due to icy road conditions.

Deborah Cloncs, Greencastle, was traveling east on U.S. 36 at 5:40 p.m. Dec. 1, when her vehicle slid and struck a bridge due to the icy road conditions. No injuries were reported at the scene. There was an estimated $750 to $1,000 in damages.

Christy Shmeckebier, Greencastle, was traveling east on County Road 125 S at 7:25 p.m. Dec. 1, when her vehicle hit a ditch due to icy road conditions. There was an estimated $1,001 to $2,500 in damages.

Thomas Decker, Greencastle, was traveling on County Road 150 W at 9:20 p.m. Dec. 1, when she attempted to pull to the side for another vehicle and struck a telephone pole due to the icy road conditions. There was an estimated $1,001 to $2,500 in damages.

Ginger Stangle, Brazil, was traveling north on Manhattan Road at 10:16 p.m. Dec. 1, when she encountered another vehicle crossing into her lane. Stangle stated she swerved to avoid a collision and lost control of her vehicle on the ice-covered road. Her vehicle left the road and struck a utility pole, where it came to a rest. The other vehicle did not attempt to stop following the accident and was not believed to have any involvement in the collision. Stangle was not injured and her vehicle was driven from the scene. There was an estimated $1,001 to $2,500 in damages.

Joan Magnetti, Terre Haute, was traveling north on Manhattan Road at 6:40 a.m. Dec. 4, when a deer entered the roadway. Magnetti was unable to avoid hitting the animal. She drove to work before reporting the accident. There was an estimated $1,001 to $2,500 in damages.

Julio Gonzales Palomares, Stephensville, Texas, was traveling south on U.S. 231 at 7 a.m. Dec. 4, when his vehicle began to slide on the ice-covered road. He lost control, slid approximately 80 feet, across both lanes of travel before rolling over onto its top as it struck a fence and came to rest in a field. Palomares was able to exit the vehicle and received no apparent injuries. Kenny's towed the vehicle from the scene. There was an estimated $2,501 to $5,000 in damages.

Christopher Hannerman, Greencastle, was traveling on County Road 125 W at 5:05 p.m. Dec. 5, when he lost control of the vehicle due to icy road conditions. His vehicle entered a plowed field, which caused the vehicle to "trip and roll," according to the accident report. Hannerman was ejected from the vehicle due to not wearing his seatbelt. He was transported to Putnam County Hospital. Jerry's towed the vehicle from the scene. There was an estimated $2,501 to $5,000 in damages.

Dustin Martin, Indianapolis, was traveling on County Road 675 E at 12:30 a.m. Sunday, when a pick-up truck he was driving slid off the road and into a ditch. Martin stated he was unfamiliar with the area and unaware there was a sharp curve. The front left tire of the truck was off the rim and the transfer case mounts broke and hanging on the cross member. Ryan Pierce, owner of the truck, was a passenger and not driving due to a suspended license. Seniours Wrecker Service winched the truck out of the ditch and towed it from the scene. There was an estimated $750 to $1,000 in damages.

Charles Kleiber, Bainbridge, and Rebecca O'Neal, Roachdale approached an intersection on County Road 900 E and County Road 900 N, when Kleiber could not stop his vehicle due to icy road conditions and was unable to avoid a collision with O'Neal's vehicle. O'Neal and her husband, a passenger, were driving to the hospital to be evaluated for injuries. The accident occurred at 10:20 a.m. Sunday. Kenny's Wrecker Service towed both vehicles from the scene. There was an estimated $5,001 to $10,000 in damages.

John Whitaker, Poland, was traveling east on I-70 at 8 a.m. Monday, when he lost control of his vehicle due to ice on the road causing him to hit a guardrail. Steele's Wrecker Service towed the vehicle from the scene. There was an estimated $2,501 to $5,000 in damages.

Cameron Barrett, Flat Rock, Ill., was traveling west on I-70 at 8 a.m. Monday, when he lost control of his vehicle due to the icy road conditions causing him to hit a guardrail. Steele's Wrecker Service towed the vehicle from the scene. There was an estimated $2,501 to $5,000 in damages.

Lincoln Gaston, Cloverdale, was traveling on County Road 1000 S at 8 a.m. Monday, when he lost control of his vehicle due to the ice-covered road causing him to hit a utility pole. There was an estimated $2,501 to $5,000 in damages.

Penelope Wells, Greencastle, was traveling on County Road 400 W at 1:20 p.m. Monday, when she lost control of her vehicle and struck an embankment. Wells stated she looked back to check a four-wheel ATV, when the accident occurred. Jerry's Wrecker Service towed the vehicle from the scene. There was an estimated $2,501 to $5,000 in damages.

Putnam County Jail

The following were booked into the Putnam County Jail on various charges.

Jason Spears, 39, Indianapolis, was booked at 7:27 p.m. Tuesday for probation violation and contempt of court.

Brett Milton, 39, Indianapolis, was booked at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday for contempt of court.

Robert Heller, 40, Terre Haute, was booked at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday for probation violation.

Norman Winn, 59, Greencastle, was booked at 6:31 p.m. Wednesday for failure to appear and operating while intoxicated.
