Sheriff's Department

There were a few accidents reported by the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

David Dilley, Reelsville, was traveling north on U.S. 231 in an Indiana Department of Transportation vehicle at 12:41 p.m. Dec. 23 when road conditions were icy. Dilley was spreading salt/sand on the road when he lost control and the front tires slid towards the east shoulder of the road. The vehicle slid into an embankment causing it to roll over onto the passenger side and came to rest on top of a natural gas meter, which ruptured. Dilley was able to exit the vehicle by breaking the windshield without injury. Dennis Sutherlin, an INDOT driver from the Bainbridge district, was traveling behind Dilley and stated he was traveling five to 10 miles per hour at the time of the accident. Due to extreme weather conditions, Curtis' Wrecker Service towed the vehicle Dec. 24. There was an estimated $5,001 to $10,000 in damages.

Charles Whetsel, Coatesville, was traveling north on Heritage Drive at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, when a deer entered the roadway. Whetsel attempted to avoid a collision with the animal, but was unsuccessful. Whetsel was uninjured. There was less than $750 in damages.

Charles Ritter, Indianapolis, was traveling south on County Road 725 E at 10:40 p.m. Dec. 20, when icy road conditions caused him to lose control of his vehicle. It slid over a 10-foot embankment and struck a tree approximately 15 feet off the roadway. Ron's Towing Service towed the vehicle from the scene. There was an estimated $2,501 to $5,000 in damages.
