Thompson, Boetjer led Eagles to victory

Monday, January 12, 2009

The South Putnam girls' basketball team has stormed into the New Year with a 3-0 record, including their 65-20 drubbing of Eminence this past Thursday. The win ran the team's record to 6-6.

The Eagles defense came to play and held Eminence to 14 first half points and just six in the second half.

It always helps when a team gets off to a hot start and South Putnam did just that. The Eagles opened with a 22-point first quarter and held a 33-14 advantage at the half. They also threw down 17 points in the third, while holding the Eels scoreless in the quarter.

The freshman duo of Jenny Thompson and Brooke Boetjer led the way with 12 points each. Fellow freshman Emily Dabkowski had nine, Oceaia Boetjer had eight and Leeah Butts added seven. Ericka Minor chipped in five, while Sarah Burnham and Jessica Minor added four each. Robbie Urton and Ashley Douglas rounded out the scoring with two points each.

South Putnam will be back in action Wed. at Riverton Parke with a 6 p.m. tip.
