Tigers tangle with Trinity, Southwestern this weekend

After going 8-1 over its last nine games, the DePauw men's basketball team will look to get back on track as it host two SCAC opponents this weekend.

DePauw is coming off its first loss in nine games and will have a chance to upset Trinity on Friday. Trinity is currently ranked No. 8 and has posted an 8-0 record in the SCAC.

A trio of Tigers leads the DPU charge this season. Senior Mike Moore, junior Tom Callen and sophomore Steve Lemasters all are averaging in double-figures for the Tigers.

Moore averages 19 points to lead the Tigers, with Callen (14) and Lemasters (11) following. Callen, a 6-foot-4 forward, is ripping down 6.2 boards per contest and has collected 33 offensive rebounds on the season. Outside threat Lemasters is connecting on 41 percent of his long-range tosses this season.

The Tigers are pouring in 75 points and hauling in 34 rebound per contest. They are also averaging 35 percent from behind the arc.

On Friday, DPU will have its hands full when the 16-1 Trinity Tigers come to town.

The team is led by sophomore forward Luke Caldarera, who is averaging 15 points and seven rebounds a contest. Charles Houston is averaging 11 points and nine boards, to go along with 52 steals on the season, while senior guard B.J. Moon is providing 11 points per game.

DePauw will be facing a big inside presence in the form of 6-foot-7 Jonathan Lewis. Lewis has swatted 15 blocks so far on the season and gobbled up 57 rebounds, for a 3.4 per game average.

As a team, Trinity averages 72 points and is out-rebounding its opponent by 10 per contest.

The Pirates of Southwestern will swing into action on Sunday at the Lilly Center.

The Pirates sit at 13-5 overall and 4-4 in the SCAC. The Tigers will be hosting a hot team in Southwestern as they are in the midst of a five-game winning streak.

Zach Bergstrom leads the way with 13 points a contest, with Travis Barber and Anthony Cox bringing home 10 points each. The team is averaging 68 points and 36 rebounds per contest.

DePauw will host Trinity Friday at 6 p.m. and will host Southwestern at noon on Sunday. Both games will be carried live on 91.5 WGRE
