Kindergarten round-up coming to Greencastle

Wednesday, February 4, 2009

During the week of Monday, Feb. 16 through Friday, Feb. 20, the Greencastle Community School Corporation will be holding kindergarten round-up from 8:30 to 3:15 p.m. Parents should enroll their children at Deer Meadow or Ridpath Elementary schools any day that week.

Children who will be five years of age on or before Aug. 1 are eligible to enter the kindergarten class.

The school will depend on where you reside. If you have any questions as to which school your child would attend, call Deer Meadow at 653-3518 or Ridpath at 653-3315.

Children do not need to attend the round-up, as they will have the opportunity to visit the schools during the orientation, held on April 28 at Ridpath and April 29 at Deer Meadow.

Parents must be sure to bring three things with them to round-up:

* A certified copy of the student's birth certificate or other reliable proof of the student's full legal name and date of birth. A certified copy can be obtained by contacting the Bureau of Vital Records in the state where the student was born. Many states now have this request available online. There is usually a minimal charge. Hospital copies are not certified.

* Proof of immunizations, including DPT, IPV, hepatitis, MMR and Varicella. All immunizations are required before the first day of school. If immunizations are not presented, your child will not be able to attend school until proof of immunization is shown.

* The state now requires the varicella (chicken pox) vaccination for all kindergarten and first grade students. If the child has had chicken pox already, the month and year needs to be documented by the parent to the school.

Any parents unable to attend round-up should contact the respective school offices to verify their child's placement in kindergarten 2009. A kindergarten orientation/visitation session will be held in April on the dates noted above.
