The Greencastle High School girls bowling team consisting of (from left) April Cain Channing Peters, Kayla Downing, Abby Coffin and Chelsay Dickerson stand in front of their team sectional trophy at Alex Alleys Tuesday. Greencastle advanced to the Washington Regional slated for Saturday.

The girls from the County schools competed in the bowling sectional Tuesday at Alex Alleys and you could cut the tension in there with a knife.

The top five go onto the regional this Weekend in Washington and it was a straight up shoot out for the top spot.

Shelby Watts from North Putnam and April Cain from Greencastle went toe-to-toe for five games, with Cain nudging out Watts by six pins. Cain finished with a five-game score of 755 while Watts finished with a 749.

Watts came out strong in the first game scoring a 163 to Cain's 157, but Cain wasn't going to go down with out a fight and scored a 174 and a 150 the next two frames to jump out in front. Watts stayed consistent with her scores and chipped away at the lead and then in the fourth game turned up the pressure with a 143, 15 pins better than Cain with one frame left.

But Cain prevailed and nailed a 146 for the win.

In third place was Kaya Downing of Greencastle with a 713 while Shayna Wahl of Cloverdale finished fourth with a 688, just five pins above Abby Coffin's 683 for fifth place.

Greencastle advanced as a team as it was the only school that fielded an entire five-person team.

Alex Alleys also announced its all conference team for this season.

On the first team was Wahl, Watts, Channing Peters of Greencastle, Coffin and Goss of South Putnam.

Shelby Watts, April Cain, Kayl Downing, Shayna Wahl and Abby Coffin are the five individuals that will travel to Washington on Saturday to take place in the individual regional. They were the top five bowlers in the sectional.

Making the second team was Chelsay Dickerson of Greencastle, Downing, Cain, Kaitlynn Nissen of South Putnam and Ashely Ross of South Putnam.
