Michael Covert, 58, Shelbyville died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009 at W.S. Major Hospital in Shelbyville.

He was born May 10, 1950 in Greencastle, the son of Donald Duane Covert and Rose Marie Feld. He married Randa Yealey Covert, and she survives.

Mr. Covert worked for Deflecto Inc. in Indianapolis until his illness. He was a 1968 graduate of Greencastle High School. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War.

Additional survivors include five children, Deanna Hellums and husband Todd of Brazil, Michael D. Covert of Brazil, Nichole Coffey and husband Donnie of Shelbyville, Nathan McClure and wife Marty of Flat Rock and Melissa Cook of Shelbyville; brother Douglas Covert and wife Deborah of Roachdale; sister Leda Hood of Felicity, Ohio; 13 grandchildren, Adrianna, Ashlynn, Jordan, Brayden, Tyler, Regan, Colton, Michael, Marcus, Timmy, Taylor, Brady and Blake; nine nieces and nephews and 11 great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son Neal McClure.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, with the Rev. Edwin Mohr officiating. Burial will follow at Van Pelt Cemetery in Waldron.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
