Walter Williamson

Walter Williamson, 80, of Greencastle died Monday, Feb. 23, 2009 at his residence.

Born July 27, 1928 in Indianapolis, he was the son of William and Martha Bohley Williamson. He married Viola Mae Kessler on April 14, 1951, and she preceded him in death on March 5, 1999.

Mr. Williamson retired as an E7 Gunnery Sergeant from the United States Marine Corps in 1976 after 30 years of service. He had served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, receiving a Purple Heart.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge #1592 and active in several bowling leagues, having won Indiana Senior Champion and competed in the national event.

Survivors include his eight children, 19 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and a sister.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home. Burial with military rites will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery.

Calling will be at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
