Tiger Cubs dominate Edgewood

The Greencastle Middle School swim team tore through Edgewood last Thursday. The boys won 142-38, while the girls won 121-64.

The GMS boys dominated the night, capturing first place in all 14 events.

Alex Asbell, Evan Smith and Matt Sims all captured two individual wins on the night to lead Greencastle. Asbell won the 200-yard freestyle (2:27.56) and the 100-yard free (1:03.83), while Smith took honors in the 100-yard IM (1:33.33) and the 50-yard butterfly (30.66). Sims won the 50-yard backstroke (37.34) and the diving event (109.70).

Nash Firebaugh captured the 50-yard freestyle (27.21), as Elijah Brattain paced everyone in the 400-yard freestyle (5:18.05). Caleb Robinson swam the 50-yard breaststroke (37.25) for a win.

Greencastle's 200-yard medley relay team of Firebaugh, Smith, Robinson and Riley Boswell won in a time of 2:10.83, while Sims, Asbell, Boswell and Lee Hayes teamed up to take the 200-yard freestyle relay (2:01.70). GMS closed out with a 400-yard freestyle relay win (4:40.31) by Firebaugh, Brattain, Asbell and Isaac Harms.

The girls' team was equally as dominate, scoring wins in all events but three.

Harriett Watson captured two events, the 50-yard freestyle (30:18) and the 100-yard freestyle (1:13.09) to lead GMS.

Haylie Romer won the 200-yard freestyle (2:48.05), while Sydney Cassida won the 100-yard IM (1:17.60). Rosio Gomez blasted the competition in the 50-yard butterfly (26.58) and Emily Wheeler won the 100-yard backstroke in 36.93.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Cassida, Gomez, Romer and Abigail Wilson won in 2:29.40, while Wheeler, Watson, Hannah Gellman and Rachel Custis won the 200-yard freestyle (2:15.66).

In the final event, GMS took over the 400-yard freestyle relay (5:03.22), finishing a full 25 seconds ahead of second place.
