Mildred Marie Hawkins Gray

Mildred Marie Hawkins Gray, 81, of Madison, formerly of Vevay, died Saturday, March 14, 2009 in King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison.

She was born March 10, 1928 in Scottsville, Ky. to the late James Burford and Effie Austin Hawkins. She was raised in Scottsville and was married to Robert Edward Tinsley. She resided for 35 years in the Indianapolis community and owned and operated Tinsley Beauty Shoppe. She had attended Central Beauty College in Indianapolis.

Mrs. Gray married Roy W. "Pete" Gray on May 6, 1967 in the West Newton Methodist Church. She moved to Vevay in 1975 and co-owned with her husband the Swiss Inn in Vevay. She moved to Madison in 2000 and became a member of the North Madison Baptist Church.

Survivors include her three daughters, Katie Regensburger and husband Robert of Madison, Judy Sanford and husband James of Fillmore and Nancy Rider and husband William Michael of Hanover; grandchildren Angie Chase, Michelle Lambert, James Sanford Jr., Bob Sanford, Jason Sanford, Stephanie Rider and Tifani Rider; great-grandchildren Justin, Taylor, Nathan, Sydney, Dylan, Ciera, Laren, Morgan, Justin and Luke; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first and second husbands, her son, Ronald K. Tinsley; her sister, Earlene Hawkins; and her brothers, Will Powers and Troy Bridgeman.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at North Madison Baptist Church, 1906 Orchard St., Madison, with Pastor Frank McGee officiating. Burial will be in Vevay Cemetery.

Calling was Tuesday at Morgan and Nay Funeral Home in Madison and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.
