Senior Center offers out of county transportation
The Putnam County Senior Center is always looking at ways to help the community. When they see a need, they step up.
The center is now offering transportation to seniors (60 years and older) who need to go to out of the county for medical appointments.
For more than 36 years, the Senior Center has been serving the older population in our community.
Last year, they served more than 12,000 meals in their nutrition program and the food pantry supplied meals for more than 10,000 people.
People, who volunteer at the center, logged more than 24,000 hours participating in the many programs offered by the facility.
Their transportation system made more than 5,000 trips. With the addition of the Putnam County Transit, many seniors are able to get rides to appointments, shopping and other errands.
However, there is still a lack of transportation for those who need to go outside of Putnam County.
"There are some people here who really need rides to doctors and medical facilities outside of the county," said center director Jim Stevens. "The Senior Center is going to provide as many of those rides as possible," he continued.
Their van will run Monday through Friday. Reservations are required 48 hours in advance.
Anyone who needs to arrange transportation to medical appointments out of the county should contact Reta at the senior center at 765-653-8606.
