Paul D. Davis, 93, of Greencastle, formerly of Brazil, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Hickory Creek at Sunset. Prior to that he resided at Jackson Gardens from 1999 to 2007.

He was born July 27, 1915 in Decatur, Ill., the son of Corbett E. Davis and Winifred B. Kalips Davis.

Mr. Davis served in the U.S. Air Force from 1935 to 1937. He married the love of his life, Lily Eilene White Davis, on Oct. 10, 1953. They were married for 53 years.

In his lifetime he had several careers, including motel operator in Nevada, architectural design and over the road truck driver.

He was a member of the NRA and several gun clubs, including youth education; participated in 4-H and had been a beekeeper at one time. He enjoyed taking classes at DePauw University and especially enjoyed art. He loved reading before his eyesight failed and was always a dog lover.

Survivors include his children, Donald Davis and wife Shirley of Florida, Mark Davis and wife Rita of Greencastle, Gary Davis and wife Diana of Clay County, Pauletta Miller of Florida, Cathy Wallace and husband Mike of Poland; 26 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one brother, Joe Dan Davis and wife Sue of Texas; and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Eilene Davis on Jan. 30, 1997; his son Gene Davis in 1997; two brothers, Billy Davis and Chuck Davis; and sister Helen Davis.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at French Funeral Home with Father Dom Chukwudi officiating. Burial will follow at Clinton Falls Cemetery near Greencastle with military honors. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society.
