Hospice looking for Putnam County volunteers

Thursday, April 9, 2009

DANVILLE -- Advocate Hospice, a locally owned and operated hospice agency, has an immediate need for hospice volunteers in Avon, Brownsburg, Danville, Plainfield, Greencastle, Lebanon and Greenwood.

"The support hospice volunteers provide to terminally ill patients and their caregivers and families is greatly needed and appreciated," says Linda Richardson, president. "Families can become overwhelmed as the disease progresses. Volunteers can make all the difference by staying with the patient for a few hours at a time and providing families and caregivers some freedom to do other things, such running errands or taking a break."

Hospice volunteers often read to the patient, converse, play games, perform light housekeeping or cooking, or make crafts and decorations for the patient's home.

Other much-needed volunteer opportunities are available in the Advocate Hospice office assisting with paperwork, answering the phone or other office duties.

All Volunteers receive special training through Advocate Hospice. If you would like to help the residents in your community, contact Lindsay Fisher at (317) 431-0509.
