PCPL receives NEH grant and co-hosts community event

Monday, April 13, 2009

Putnam County Public Library, along with other local agencies, is the recipient of the 2009 Picturing America grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

To celebrate the award and introduce the community to their newest resource, Putnam County Public Library and Putnam County Head Start Program have teamed up to host a Picturing America evening at 7 p.m. April 15 at the library. Selected pieces will be presented in a hands-on museum format, with stations full of activities that will bring the artwork to life in an experiential way.

Picturing America is a free initiative from the National Endowment for the Humanities that helps teach American history and culture by bringing the country's greatest art directly to classrooms and libraries.

Each recipient was awarded 40 large, high-quality reproductions of great American art. Picturing America's resources are designed to allow each work of art to enhance the study of American history, social studies, language arts, literature and civics.

The Picturing America program was first launched nationally in February 2008. In addition to schools and libraries, through a partnership with NEH, the Administration for Children and Families Office of Head Start has made this program available to more than 20,000 Head Start centers across the nation.

This event is free and open to all ages. The public is encouraged to attend.
