Humane society thanks public for support

Friday, April 17, 2009

To the Editor:

The Humane Society of Putnam County would like to express our gratitude to the community for their support over the past several months and during our grand opening celebrations.

Both the Chamber ribbon cutting on April 1 and our community grand re-opening celebration on April 4 were big hits. We realize it was a true community effort and that our re-opening would have never been possible without each and every donation received. We've literally had thousands of hours of service, and thousands of dollars, donated from individuals and businesses as well as local governments in order to make this a reality.

We could never adequately thank everyone who has donated time and money to the HSPC, from electricians and painters to local vets, farmers, families, grocery stores, government officials, contractors and the newspaper, we know who you are and thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

As many of you know, the HSPC had to close its doors in August of 2008 due to funding issues. The outpouring of support is a testimony that the community realizes the importance of having a local shelter. With our community's continued support, the Humane Society of Putnam County will be able to continue operations providing shelter and medical care for homeless animals, providing education and outreach in the community, and building a strong adoption and transport program in hopes that all animals end up in safe, loving and secure homes.

We thank you again and invite the community and community organizations to come out and visit our shelter at 4700 E. S.R. 240, Greencastle. We are very proud of our renovated facility and love showing off our shelter and the animals residing in it.

We are open noon to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Also, please visit our Web site, www.hspcanimals.org, where you'll learn about upcoming events and you can see our adoptable pets.
