Cougars 'slam' Western Boone

THORNTOWN -- The North Putnam baseball team defeated Western Boone 12-6 Saturday.

The Cougars exploded on the Stars, putting up 12 runs on 12 hits, including three home runs.

"Again, offensively we played real well. We did commit a couple errors, but a lot better than our last performance," Cougar head coach Norm Fish said. "We had a game at Rockville on Thursday that we lost 12-9. We were up 6-5 in that and we just kind of quit -- I don't know what happened.

"Today against Western Boone, we came out pretty good and stuck with it and put runs on the board four out of the seven innings. We had some pretty big bats come through at the proper time," Fish added.

Tyler Watson was 2-for-4 with a home run, but it was the slugging of senior Jerrett Ban and junior Brock Jones that provided eight of North Putnam's 12 runs.

Jones and Ban were a combined 6-for-8, with eight RBIs as they both collected grand slam home runs on the afternoon. Scott Hunt and Mitchell Crum both went 2-for-3.

Crum pitched a complete game, going seven innings with six runs, seven hits and six strikeouts.

"Crum did an excellent job on the mound. He started a little slow the first couple innings, but he found his way at the end and pretty much took control from the third inning on. I was happy to see that," Fish commented.

The Cougars will travel to Cloverdale for a 5 p.m. start.
